How do I re-pair the remote if it stops working?
Ranger MBX4K Remote
  1. Please check the batteries are charged by pressing a button and confirming the light illuminates.
  2. Please use a USB mouse or keyboard to go to Settings, Bluetooth and then Unpair
  3. Please follow the onscreen instructions in order to repair the remote
  4. If you do not have a USB mouse or keyboard then please unplug the power from your box, and remove the batteries from your remote, wait 2 minutes and then put it all back and follow steps 3
  5. It should now be fine!
MB3 Remote
  1. Please check the batteries are charged by pressing a button and confirming the light illuminates.
  2. Please use a USB mouse or keyboard to go to Settings, Bluetooth and then Unpair
  3. Please re pair the remote by holding down the OK and Back buttons simultaneously until the light goes solid.
  4. Leave the remote next to the device until the light flashes.
  5. If you do not have a USB mouse or keyboard then please unplug the power from your box, and remove the batteries from your remote, wait 2 minutes and then put it all back and follow steps 3 and 4.
  6. It should now be fine!
How do I fix DSTV Now catchup working on my MBX3?
Changing your DNS so DSTV NOW catchup works:
By default you are using the DNS servers of your Internet service provider, but you don’t have to stick with them. There are a number of reasons to use third-party DNS servers. They can be faster than your provider’s DNS servers, offer advanced security features, and can help some streaming services work better. N.B. Please do not use the DNS numbers in the pictures but first use the ones stated below if you are experiencing DSTV catchup issues.
How to change the DNS settings:
  1. Open the Settings on the device.
  2. Select “Wi-Fi” or “Ethernet”.
  3. For Ethernet click “Connection type” for WiFi Long press your current network, then select “Modify network”.
  4. Mark “Show advanced options” check box.
  5. Change “IP settings” to “Static”
  6. Add the DNS servers IPs

    209.244.0.3

    209.244.0.4

    to the “DNS 1”, and “DNS 2” fields.

  7. Press “Save” button, disconnect from the network, and reconnect for changes to take effect.

 

UPDATE: Note that setting IP Settings to “Static” will affect the way that DHCP does address allocation and can be used only as a short-term solution. In order to work correctly, you have to configure your router and assign static IP to the device’s MAC address.

Complete Ranger MBX4K fix for Certification, DSTV and Supersport (any issue)

Please see below the best way to get around the current Google Certification on your new MBX4K box. Please let me know if you do not come right.

  1. Settings, Apps, DSTV Now – if it is not 1.42.6 then please Uninstall, if it is please proceed to step 4 and then 7 and continue.
  2. MBX Appstore/Updater, Settings, scroll down to Expert Mode – tick this box
  3. Further down Privileged Extension –  untick this box
  4. MBX Appstore/Updater, Google Play Services, If it gives you the option to Upgrade, please do so and then INSTALL; if it says UNINSTALL then you have the latest version so please proceed.
  5. MBX Appstore/Updater, Super Sport right at the bottom (you may need to lift the page up to access it), If it gives you the option to Upgrade, please do so and then INSTALL; if it says UNINSTALL then you have the latest version so please proceed
  6. MBX Appstore/Updater, DSTV Now, see VERSIONS, select Version 1.42.6, it will download automatically and then once downloaded press INSTALL, then RUN and it will take you to the LOGIN page.
  7. Once logged in press the Home button and open the SS app
  8. Any questions it asks about customisation etc please press close.
  9. At the top of your screen you will see VIDEOS, click this and then BLITZ.
  10. It will tell you that you will be redirected to DSTV say CONTINUE
  11. Open with DSTV, ALWAYS.
  12. The video will either play now or give you an ERROR, either way please press the BACK button once and look for 3 lines in the top left of your screen.
  13. Click these, Settings, Max Video Quality, change it from HIGHEST to HIGH
  14. If you use the Google Play Store, Settings, Auto Update Apps must be turned OFF; if you do not or don’t intend to use the Play Store then leave as is.

Please leave your box as is until you receive an update allowing you to turn Auto Updates back on and Max Video Quality back to Highest.

Complete MB3 fix for Certification, DSTV and Supersport (any issue except catch-up)

Please see below the best way to sort out the issues with your MB3 Mediabox. Please let me know if you do not come right.

PLEASE NOTE IF YOU EVER EXPERIENCE A GREY AND WHITE SCREEN FLICKERING WHEN TRYING TO ACCESS THE MBX APP STORE PLEASE GO TO SETTINGS ON THE HOME SCREEN, APPS, ALL APPS, MBX APPS STORE, CLEAR ALL DATA. NOW PLEASE PROCEED AS YOU WERE.

  1. MBX Settings – System Configuration – Check for system updates – if it says PROCEED then please do so to step 4.
  2. MBX Settings – System Configuration – Factory Reset.
  3. MBX Appstore, Google Play Services, Upgrade, please do so and then Install, no need to RUN it.
  4. Log in to DSTV, Settings, scroll down to Max Video Quality and change it from Highest to High
  5. If you use the Google Play Store, Settings, Auto App Updater must be turned OFF; if you do not or don’t intend to then leave as is.
Buffering and slow internet – Router adjustment

Please do the following.

  1. Log into your router, go to WIFI Settings and change your channel width from Auto to 20/40.
  2. Then change channel from auto to 6.

The reason for this is that some router models are not able to co-exist with BLE ( low energy Bluetooth) which the mediabox uses.

Your WiFi should work fine now.

Amazon Prime currently unavailable

Due to an ongoing approval process, unfortunately Amazon Prime is currently unavailable on the Mediabox. This should be resolved by September 2018.

Redbull TV Not Working
  1. Please go to MBX Appstore/App Updater, Settings, scroll down and tick Expert Mode and untick Privileged Extension.
  2. Click Latest in the bottom left corner, Redbull App and Select Upgrade, then wait for the Install pop up and finally Run.

What are the monthly costs of Amazon, DSTV, Showmax & Netflix?

When you purchase a Mediabox we want you to have the choice, so we let you decide which premium content you subscribe to. The monthly subscription fees for premium services are as follows: Netflix(R130)*, Amazon(R150)*, DSTV(R850) and Showmax(R99).
*Please note some subscriptions are based on a USD price and as such are subject to change in exchange rates.

What version of Kodi comes installed on the Mediabox?

We currently do not pre-install Kodi any longer as it has become illegal in some European countries. You are, however free to install it from the Playstore on your Mediabox.

What operating system does the Mediabox use?

We use the Android operating system. Currently the MBX3 device comes with 4.4 Kitkat and the MBX4K version 6 installed. Our new MBX4K – Ranger has Android TV 8 – Oreo and is Google Certified.

What subscription do I need to get DSTV? and are there any benefits?

The upside is you can run two Mediabox devices at the same time as well as a satellite decoder on a single subscription. You can also get all the catchup you would have available on an Explorer Decoder.

How do I scroll with the remote?

Simply take the Mediabox remote control and activate the ‘mouse pointer’ by pressing the mouse button once, then point the cursor anywhere you like in a wand style motion then click and hold down the middle/OK button and drag what you want left, right, up or down.

How does one update the software on the Mediabox?

We provide a full over the air update service for the units lifetime and will continue to add new features and enhance the user experience with every update we roll out.

You can also use the Playstore to update and add specific applications on the unit.

Which Supersport channels do I have access to?

You can get Supersport 1 – 12 on the DSTV Now app, with Supersport 1 – 6 being available in HD, bandwidth and content rights allowing.
